The Tulsa (Okla.) Police Department received a donation of 200 Tasers from the Tulsa Police Department Foundation. In an unanimous decision, the Tulsa City Council accepted the donation on behalf of the Tulsa Police Department.
"This is a great day for the City of Tulsa," TPD Foundation Board Chairman Roger Chasteen said. "This was a joint effort between law enforcement and the citizens of Tulsa to enhance the safety and security of each."
The Tulsa Police will go from 126 to 326 Tasers on the streets.
The Tasers are the X2 model, the preferred Taser for most law enforcement agencies. It has an integrated laser, and two shots to help ensure that an officer is able to subdue a suspect even if the first shot misses.
Chasteen said, "The X2 not only reduces the risk of injury to suspects, but most police departments have seen a marked decline in the number of on the job injuries for officers."
The TPD Foundation is a not for profit organization, and all donations are tax deductible. Donations can be made online, or by contacting the TPD Foundation at www.TPDFoundation.org, or support@TPDFoundation.org.
