FN America has announced that the LAPD has received its first delivery of FN 509 MRD-LE pistols
The pistols in the first shipment from FN will be issued to new officer recruits and to instructors from one of the department’s training schools.
LAPD officially adopted the FN 509 MRD-LE pistol as its newest duty pistol in August. The FN handgun was selected after the department's handgun trials. FN says the FN 509 surpassed all expectations in performance during a 20,000 round endurance test.
Additionally, the LAPD continued its endurance testing on the two pistols that surpassed the initial 20,000-round test with zero malfunctions during their original selection process. Both pistols were fired to a combined 40,000 rounds and again, passed with zero malfunctions. FN calls this "a testament to the quality and reliability of the FN 509 MRD-LE duty pistol."
“Since the announcement of the agency’s adoption of the FN 509 MRD-LE as their newest duty pistol, our team has conducted enhanced training for LAPD’s instructor staff, including specific coursework on the duty use of red dot optics,” says Charles “Bucky Mills, Sr., director of law enforcement sales for FN America, LLC. “This training will assist in building the foundation that their firearm instructor staff will utilize when training recruits and officers in the FN 509 MRD-LE pistol.”
The FN 509 MRD-LE features a precision, hammer-forged barrel with recessed target crown, high-performance, conical striker and flat-faced, duty-rated trigger. With a positive wall at 90° before a clean break, officers maintain their sights on target through the full trigger pull. The FN Low-Profile Optics-Mounting System with co-witness tritium 3-dot iron sights, delivers rapid sight acquisition and consistent shot placement, the company says.
