"Along with our other contracts for spike armor, this new award sets Armor Express apart as the premier provider of correctional vests in the country," asserted Matt Davis, company CEO and president. "Our top quality products, proven track record, and our ability to provide outstanding customer service were some of the prime factors in the selection process."
In fact, Armor Express has already mobilized fitting teams and begun measuring at federal corrections institutions across the country.
The timely award comes on the heels of a well-publicized prison stabbing incident that occurred in June of this year. A federal corrections officer, Jose Rivera, age 22, was stabbed to death by an inmate at the U.S. Penitentiary in Atwater, Calif. Officer Rivera was not wearing spike resistant corrections body armor.
Armor Express vests being manufactured for the BOP will include the NIJ approved Taurus Spike Level 3 panels. They will be inserted in Evolution and LoPro carriers, along with accessories.
Brian Buchanan, sales manager of the firm's governmental division, noted that since January of 2007 and Armor Express' GSA Schedule Award (General Services Administration), federal government sales growth has been steady.
