U.S. Customs and Border Protection has selected Campbell/Harris Security Equipment Company (CSECO) as the sole provider of contraband detectors (Density Meters) to its hundreds of customs officers for the next five years.

Through a highly sought after and very competitive RFP process the Buster Density Meter was selected on the basis of overall life cycle value, according to the company. Selection criteria included performance, durability, safety, warranty, past performance, and price. "This RFP process has been the toughest, most thorough, and detailed selection process that we have seen to date," says Tony Harris, CSECO president and CEO. "We are very proud and very pleased that the Buster proved once again to be the best overall value on the market." The contract award also includes operator and technician training and ongoing maintenance and repairs.

The selection process was developed and conducted by CBP's Interdiction Technology Branch and was several years in the making. CBP is an agency of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and is responsible for targeting, selecting, and examining cargo deemed high risk for terrorist-related activity, smuggling of contraband, and trade law violations. CBP is also responsible for facilitating the release of low-risk cargo and the flow of free trade. CBP has a continuing requirement to interdict contraband such as weapons, explosives, illegal drugs, or currency through examination of conveyances. CBP currently deploys Buster hand-held Density Meters to detect the presence of concealed objects in targeted conveyances. The new Buster Density Meters will be utilized nationwide by CBP to perform non-intrusive inspections (NII) of vehicles and conveyances for detection of illegal contraband coming into the United States.

Campbell/Harris Security Equipment Company (CSECO) is a leader in the manufacturing of density meters and contraband detectors for law enforcement and border patrol agencies in the United States and around the world. Other customers include the U.S. State Department, the Department of Defense, the United Nations, and American embassies worldwide. As a leading supplier of contraband detection equipment, CSECO has designed and manufactured equipment such as the Buster density meter/contraband detector with Rad-Aware technology and the Perfect Vision V20 Videoscope. They also manufacture the CT-40 Contraband Detection Kit which includes both the "Buster" and the Perfect Vision V20 Videoscope, and the CT-30 Contraband Detection Kit which includes both the Buster and the Freedom View Fiberscope.
