GA Officer Charged with Homicide After Hitting Man on Moped while Driving to Work

Chief Kevin Brock of the Summerdale Police Department told news reporters at the scene that the truck sped through a stop sign and hit his vehicle.
The teen told investigators he tossed a firework onto the property where the SUV was parked, catching it on fire.
The goal is to have enough vehicles in the fleet that officers can take them home. Chief Brian James said the department is losing officers to other departments that already offer this option.
The officer died at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt, troopers said.
Vehicles are currently shared by two deputies, and the change would allow the department to keep vehicles for six years instead of three. This would also reduce employee contact, which is important during the pandemic. It would take a few years to build up the fleet, but wouldn’t cost the county extra.
