Homeowners Association Tells Police Officer to Park Car in Garage
A homeowner's association in East Lake, FL, recently sent a letter to one of its residents—an officer with the Clearwater Police Department—that she has to park her patrol vehicle in a garage and not in her driveway.
A homeowner's association in East Lake, FL, recently sent a letter to one of its residents—an officer with the Clearwater Police Department—that she has to park her patrol vehicle in a garage and not in her driveway.
According to ABC News, Dan Parri—a family friend speaking on behalf of the officer and her husband—was immediately incredulous.
"The first thought is, it's a joke? Like this is the most absurd thing I’ve ever heard of,” Parri said.
State law says HOAs can prohibit commercial vehicles from parking in driveways but an opinion issued in 2005, by then State Attorney Charlie Crist, says that a law enforcement vehicle is not considered commercial.
The officer faces thousands of dollars in fines if she fails to comply with the HOA's orders.
