N. Kentucky University Officer Struck, Killed by Hearse In Ohio
Officer Roy Sims, 51, died from injuries he sustained in the crash in Montgomery, Ohio. Officer Sims was escorting a funeral procession to Gate of Heaven Cemetery when the hearse struck the motorcycle he was riding around 11:39 a.m.

Seventeen Kansas and Missouri police agencies attended the event with 32 competitors. In all, 155 people turned out for the first-time event, including Lenexa Mayor Michael Boehm and State Senator Julia Lynn.

BMW Considers Sport Bike for Police Market
BMW plans to field-test a sport bike now being used by police agencies in Europe as an off-road option for American law enforcement. BMW is currently selling a civilian version of its F800-GS in the United States, and could easily convert it for police use, the company's law enforcement manager tells POLICE Magazine.

Rating the 2011 Police Motorcycles
Emergency vehicle operators with the drivers' training divisions of the LASD and LAPD evaluated the Honda ST1300, Kawasaki Concourse 14, BMW R1200 RT-P, Harley-Davidson Electra Glide and Harley-Davidson Road King. The testing regimen includes a 32-lap high-speed course, vehicle dynamics pursuit evaluation, hard-braking test, and ergonomic review.

Washington Troopers Get Honda ST1300 for Highway Enforcement
The Washington State Patrol has begun adopting the Honda ST1300PA motorcycle and shifting away from BMW motorcycles for highway enforcement. There are currently 43 full-time troopers on motorcycles across the state and 12 have just completed the transition.

Arizona Dealer Offers Kawasaki ZG1400 Enforcer
The ZG1400 Enforcer adds "drop bars" to protect the bike during cone-pattern training and cuts back to one battery to power its electronic police gear. The bike arrives with a radio kill switch so an officer can preserve battery life when booking a subject or processing a DUI.

N.J. Township Renews Lease To Upgrade Police Motorcycles
The Bloomfield Township (N.J.) PD can now upgrade its motorcycle fleet under a program that has expanded to include other types of equipment, such as police cruisers, EMS vehicles, fire trucks, buses, tactical vehicles, or surveillance equipment.

Zero Upgrades Electric Motorcycles for 2011
The Zero S and Zero DS have been given a new look; and the street and dual sport models will become the world's first production electric motorcycles to feature a maintenance-free belt drive system. Zero has also increased the capacity of the power packs by 12.5% to extend the motorcycles' range.
