Police on Wednesday announced charges of first-degree murder and armed violence against Shomari Legghette, a four-time felon accused of shooting Chicago Police Cmdr. Paul at point-blank range using a gun with an extended-capacity magazine.

Police say Hendricks and another person approached the officer as he sat in his personal car around 6:30 p.m. Monday. The other person tapped on the passenger side window to distract the officer while Hendricks went to the driver’s side, pulled a gun and demanded the car, police said.
