2 NC Deputies Shot During Welfare Check, Standoff in Progress
Deputies proceeded to enter the home after discovering all vehicles belonging to the residents were on the property. Upon entering the home, deputies received gunfire from an unknown individual within the residence. Two deputies were hit.

CMPD has hired The DiJulius Group, a national consulting firm, to train its 2,300 employees in the fine points of the firm’s “Customer Service Revolution.” The department will pay about $60,000, CMPD spokesman Rob Tufano says.

State officials said Master Officer David Ritzheimer and Stanly County deputy Darnell Almond helped rescue a kayaker who had been underwater for several minutes after his vessel overturned.

NC Agency's K-9 Training Investigated After Video of Handler Given to Press
The video at the center of the investigation shows the officer placing a collar on 4-year-old K-9 Zuul, then lifting the dog off the ground using the collar. After struggling to get the dog into the back of a vehicle, the officer appears to strike the animal.

According to Cabarrus County deputies, the suspect drove off during a traffic stop. They said he eventually stopped and ran into his home. A gun was reported found inside his car.

NC Man Charged with Attempted Murder Over Arson of Deputy's Home
Authorities said firefighters responded within minutes of the call and were able to prevent severe fire damage to the home. No one was injured.
