Tuesday morning a school resource officer at the Ponderosa High School in Douglas County, Colorado, prevented a student from entering the school with a suspicious backpack that officials say held an explosive device.
Colorado SRO Stops Student from Taking Suspected Explosive Device into School
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office says the SRO received information that a student had brought a device to the school. At around 9:28 a.m., the SRO located and detained the student.

Bomb techs were called in to investigate and examine the device, and the school was evacuated and searched by explosive detection dogs, officials say. Students were permitted back into the school around 11:40 a.m.
The suspicious device was preliminarily determined to contain explosives Tuesday evening, the sheriff’s office said. Experts are examining the device to confirm the presence of explosives.
Douglas County Sheriff’s detectives are investigating the incident to determine charges.
