K9 Skaüt Takes Top Honors in K9 Competition

The Phoenix PD team also won First Place in the Detection Agency category, showcasing the skill and dedication of this team.

The Desert Dog Police K9 Trials, hosted by the Arizona Law Enforcement Canine Association (ALECA), is an action-packed competition that demonstrates the vital role K9s play in law enforcement. Canine teams face a variety of challenges simulating real-life scenarios—everything from explosives and narcotics detection to apprehension and tactical obedience.

This year’s event, held at WestWorld of Scottsdale, attracted fans from across the nation, who witnessed the impressive skills of 70 K9 teams competing in events like daring handler protection, risky narcotic and explosives detection, and agility courses. The family-friendly expo also featured over 150 vendors, showcasing the latest public safety tools and technologies, with interactive displays from SWAT teams, aviation units, and more.

ALECA,, a national nonprofit canine organization, continues to support law enforcement teams throughout Arizona by providing training, equipment, and resources to enhance their K9 units' effectiveness. The organization operates through membership dues, donations, and sponsorships, with no public funding.
