Alabama K-9 Dies After Being Left in Car, Handler Fired

According to the sheriff's office, the incident happened on Oct. 11 "after the deputy finished a night shift and subsequently left the K-9 in the car."

A K-9 with the Escambia County (Alabama) Sheriff's Office in Alabama is dead after being left in a vehicle by a deputy, according to Sheriff Heath Jackson.

The deputy has been fired following an investigation, WEARTV reports.

According to the sheriff's office, the incident happened on Oct. 11 "after the deputy finished a night shift and subsequently left the K-9 in the car."

"The deputy later found the dog deceased upon waking," the sheriff's office says in a release.

The sheriff's office did not identify the deputy or K-9 involved.
