Louisiana Motor Officer Injured in Hit-and-Run

The Lafayette police officer was on a patrol motorcycle Wednesday when they were hit. The LSP investigation showed that the officer was blocking the entrance ramp with emergency lights activated to block off the route for a funeral procession.

A Lafayette, Louisiana, police officer has been severely injured and a woman arrested after a DWI hit-and-run incident, according to Louisiana State Police.

Troopers told KPLCTV the Lafayette police officer was on a patrol motorcycle Wednesday when they were hit. The LSP investigation showed that the officer was blocking the entrance ramp with emergency lights activated to block off the route for a funeral procession.

According to authorities, Chelsea Meaux, 34, was driving a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado when she failed to stop, struck the officer, and then drove off without checking on or offering assistance to the officer. Lafayette officers quickly responded to the incident and stopped Meaux.

The officer is now in stable condition.
