LAPD Unveils Memorial to Fallen K-9s

A ceremony honoring the service of K-9s and revealing the statue was attended by city and LAPD officials as well as LAPD K-9s and their handlers and K-9s and handlers from other area agencies.

The Los Angeles Police Department Thursday unveiled a bronze statue honoring the department’s fallen K-9s at its downtown headquarters.

A ceremony honoring the service of K-9s and revealing the statue was attended by city and LAPD officials as well as LAPD K-9s and their handlers and K-9s and handlers from other area agencies.

Four LAPD K-9s have been killed in the line of duty.

Third Palm Beach County Motor Deputy Dies from Crash Injuries
Deputy Ignacio "Dan" Diaz succumbed to his injuries shortly before 12:45 p.m. Monday, Nov. 25. He and two other deputies were struck by a vehicle Nov. 21 while working a traffic detail.
Palm Beach County Sheriff's Deputy Ignacio 'Dan' Diaz was working traffic Nov. 21 when he and two other deputies were hit by an SUV. The other two deputies were dead on arrival at the hospital. Diaz died Monday.

"There's evidence at the scene, to support that the suspect produced a shotgun and actually fired upon our K9 Obie," Madera County Sheriff Jared Pogue said.

To end the pursuit, a Coweta County deputy performed a PIT maneuver, forcing the vehicle to stop. The deputy then deployed K-9 Titan to assist in apprehending the suspect.
