Fabio Ochoa, a leader of a 1980s Colombian cocaine cartel, faces a possible life prison sentence after being convicted on federal drug conspiracy charges.

Ochoa, 46, has already served five years in Colombian prisons in the 1990s. But now he is charged with joining a smuggling network from 1997 to 1999 after he was released from prison in Colombia.

Some of the strongest evidence against Ochoa came from co-defendants who cooperated with prosecutors, hoping to get lighter sentences.

Ochoa has been in jail since his arrest in 1999.
