Fallen Officers’ Families Eligible for Scholarships
Surviving children and spouses of police officers who died in the line of duty can apply for educational scholarships to attend undergraduate, graduate, and vocational or technical schools from a corporate-sponsored fund.
Surviving children and spouses of police officers who died in the line of duty can apply for educational scholarships to attend undergraduate, graduate, and vocational or technical schools from a corporate-sponsored fund. The Vantagepoint Public Employee Memorial Scholarship Fund was founded three years ago by the Washington, D.C.-based ICMA Retirement Corporation.
The fund is dedicated to the principle that survivors of public sector employees—who gave so much to their communities and paid the ultimate price for their service--should have greater security through scholarships for education.
ICMA and its financial services partners provided financial support for the $90,000 in scholarships awarded in the past year. Since its inception in 2001, the Vantagepoint Public Emplooyee Memorial Scholarship Fund has provided 35 students with scholarships worth more than $160,000.
Applications for 2005/2006 scholarships are now being accepted through March 2005. For more information visit www.vantagescholar.org.
