Authorities continued the manhunt on Saturday for a suspect who shot and critically wounded a Fremont (Calif.) PD officer during a foot pursuit in Oakland on Friday, reports SFGate.com.
At about 2:30 p.m. Friday, Fremont officer Todd Young, 39, and a fellow officer had tried to arrest Andrew Barrientos, 20, who was wanted for a string of crimes including attempted carjacking, resisting arrest and an alleged attack on the mother of his young child.
Barrientos opened fire on the officers. Two rounds struck Young in the pelvic area. Both officers returned fire. Barrientos unsuccessfully attempted to carjack one vehicle, and then carjacked a green Mazda 626 before fleeing the scene.
Young, who required 60 units of blood during surgery, is in critical but stable condition.
