Video: Colorado Officer Killed In Mobile Park Ambush

A Limon (Colo.) Police officer was killed late Wednesday at a mobile home park in eastern Colorado by a barricaded gunman while serving a warrant with two other officers who became trapped in the home and were later freed by SWAT.

A Limon (Colo.) Police officer was killed late Wednesday at a mobile home park in eastern Colorado by a barricaded gunman while serving a warrant with two other officers who became trapped in the home and were later freed by SWAT.

Limon Police officers and Lincoln County Sheriff's deputies arrived at the mobile home park shortly after 6 p.m. to serve a fugitive warrant at the request of the U.S. Marshals Service.

After Dennis "Mark" Hasty opened fire and killed Officer Jay Sheridan, 27, the other two officers ran into another part of the home for concealment. Officer Sheridan had been with the department for more than six years and his wife had recently given birth to their first child, reports KMGH.

After the shooting, a five-hour standoff ensued. The officers inside the home. A SWAT raid at 10:40 p.m. freed the officers. Hasty, who had repeatedly failed to register as a sex offender, was found dead inside the home. He has been on the run from various law enforcement agencies since 2009.
