VIDEO: Ore. Officer Shot, Gunman Killed at House Fire Incident
A police officer was shot in Oregon City, Ore., Sunday afternoon while responding to a burning house, according to the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office.
Witness Jonathan Priest told KATU he saw the suspect shoot the officer. "The police officer lowered his guard for a second (and) right as he did, the guy behind the fence shot him in the face and the officer fell to the ground," Priest said.
UPDATE: The officer's condition was unknown earlier today. He has since died. Reserve officer Robert Libke was 41.
He was flown by LifeFlight helicopter to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center. Witnesses said medics were performing CPR on the officer as they rushed him into the emergency room.
Sgt. Robert Wurpes with the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office said a SWAT team confronted the suspect at the burning house and shots were fired. Wurpes said investigators are still looking into how the suspect died. KATU crews near the scene reported hearing several gunshots around 2:45 p.m.
