VIDEO: South Carolina Officer Shot; Suspect in Custody
A suspect is in custody after police say he shot a West Columbia, S.C., police officer Tuesday afternoon, reports WLTX.
West Columbia Police Chief Dennis Tyndall says his officers were at a residence to serve a bench warrant against 51-year-old William Kernan. Officers say Kernan put his head outside a window, then went back inside the home and fired a shot.
The bullet went through the wall and struck the officer in the head. Tyndall did not identify the officer, but says he was taken to the hospital for treatment and is in stable condition.
S.W.A.T. teams surrounded the house. Just before 4 p.m., Kernan could be seen coming from the home with his hands up and surrendered to officers.
