VIDEO: Nebraska Hostage Negotiator Discusses Deadly Friday Standoff
For 11 hours Friday, hostage taker Kenneth Clark was inside a west Omaha home while Douglas County Hostage Negotiator Lt. Rob Jones was outside.
"We come in with calm demeanor to bring emotionality down and rationality come back up, so they begin to think clearer," said Jones.
He and 8 others on the Hostage Negotiation Team tried to convince Clark to let his victims go while having no idea how it would go.
In the end, the situation turned tragic; Clark killed John Edwards and his brother Jason.
But Lt. Jones told WOWT TV much of his work Friday was a success when the men's sister, Julie, was let free. This was thanks to monthly training and certifications that his negotiation team undergoes.
