VIDEO: Utah Police K-9 Killed, Suspect Shot in SWAT Standoff
A Unified (UT) Police Department K-9 was shot and killed in a SWAT standoff that also sent a suspect to the hospital with critical injuries Thursday morning, reports KUTV.
A Unified Police SWAT team arrived at the suspect's home around midnight. As officers arrived, there was an exchange of gunfire with someone inside the home, according to Unified Police Detective Jared Richardson.
During the gunfire, a K-9 named Aldo was shot, and a suspect in the home was also hit. Officers cannot confirm if the suspect's gunshot was self-inflicted or if he was hit by an officer's bullet.
Police were serving a warrant for David Shane Anderson, 36, but could not confirm if Anderson was the suspect who was shot.
Anderson has previous felony charges for forgery and drugs.
Sheriff James Winder said the entire department was saddened by the loss of Aldo.
"He is being treated with honors at the scene and we'll continue to do so as we address him," Winder said.
