An off-duty Massachusetts police officer was killed after crashing into the back of a tractor-trailer in the breakdown lane of a highway, reports WCVB.
Massachusetts State Police said Officer Michael Lee, 38, was heading southbound on Interstate 395 when he crashed into the truck parked in the breakdown lane just after 1 a.m. Saturday. The Webster (FL) Police Department officer was pronounced dead at the scene.
"Michael had a way of bringing a smile to everyone's face the moment he encountered them," his department posted on the Webster (FL) Police Department Facebook page. "He was an outstanding officer, SWAT operator, investigator, and person. He will be missed by not only his colleagues in law enforcement, but by the community he served."
