A retired K-9 with the Fowlerville (MI) Police Department has died of a cardiac disease that results in a decreased ability of the heart to generate pressure to pump blood through the vascular system.

The agency posted on Facebook, "K-9 Niko retired June 2018 and lived with his handler Sgt. Soli until November 2018 when he went to live with his new family, the Roddy's. The Roddy's welcomed Niko into their home and lives until his passing on April 24th. Niko had been diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM) which cut his retirement years short."

The post continued, "Niko was a beloved member of this department and served faithfully from 2012-2018. He will be missed by many. Rest easy Niko, thank you for your service!"
