Officers with the Jonesborough (TN) Police Department welcomed their newest K-9 to the ranks on Tuesday at a ceremony held in front of the agency's headquarters building.

According to the Johnson City Press, K-9 Nero—a 17-month-old Dutch Shepherd—cost the department $17,500 total, most of which was raised through Paws in Blue, a non-profit that was started by Jonesborough residents to raise funds for JDP to get more police dogs.

"We're very pleased with the support that we have in the community here," Jonesborough Police Chief Ron Street said of the community raising funds for Nero. "That shows that they're behind the Jonesborough Police Department and they believe in what we're trying to do."

Nero will work alongside handler Tammy Ray in narcotics detection and apprehension.
