A K-9 and his handler are retiring together from the Kennewick Police Department in the state of Washington.

The agency said on Facebook, "Officer Brad Kohn and K-9 Axel are retiring."

The post continued, "Last night Officer Brad Kohn was recognized at City Council for his years of dedicated service to the citizens of Kennewick. Officer Kohn is retiring at the end of the month after 30 years of service. He started as a reserve in 1989 and was hired as a full time officer in 1993. During his 30 years of service, 22 of them were dedicated to being a K-9 handler where he has revolutionized the way we use K9s at the Kennewick Police Department and has passed his knowledge and experience around the state as a certified K9 instructor."

During his time with the agency—and with his three K-9 partners, Deke, Vigo and Axel—Officer Kohn has recorded more than 2,000 K-9 deployments and more than 600 suspect apprehensions.
