A gunman was taken into custody after opening fire on officers with the Shreveport Police Department during a multi-hour standoff at an apartment complex on Monday. One of the officers was hit by the gunfire.
The officer was transported to a hospital and is expected to be OK.
According to the Shreveport Times, the man—identified as 65-year-old William Torrans—was charged with one count of attempted first-degree murder. Additional charges are pending.
Members of a Special Response Team extracted Torrans from an apartment after multiple attempts to have him surrender himself.
The incident reportedly began with a shots fired call after police say Torrans opened fire on landscapers.
