Texas K-9 Dies During Search for Felony Suspects

K9 Kozmo was released to help track the suspects. Officers eventually located the suspects but could not find Kozmo. The police dog was found dead after an extensive search.

A Mesquite, TX, police dog was killed overnight during a search for felony suspects as Mesquite PD assisted Balch Springs police.

The suspects were caught, but in the process something happened that killed K9 Kozmo.

t happened around 2:30 a.m. Monday as officers were helping the Balch Springs Police Department chase several armed aggravated robbery suspects.

K9 Kozmo was released to help track the suspects. Officers eventually located the suspects but could not find Kozmo. The police dog was found dead after an extensive search, Fox 4 reports.

"It does appear that there might have been a struggle involving K9 Kozmo," said Lt. Stephen Biggs.

A veterinarian will perform a necropsy and other tests to determine Kozmo’s cause of death.
