A Florence County, South Carolina, Sheriff’s deputy died Tuesday May 20, 2025 from injuries suffered in a motor vehicle accident.
Deputy Nathaniel “Nate” Ansay was driving on U.S. Highway 301 Tuesday afternoon near Effingham when the crash occurred, the sheriff’s office said on Facebook.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
Ansay, 24, had been employed by the sheriff’s since 2023 and graduated from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy as a Class 1 officer in 2024. He was on duty at the time of the accident.
“Nate never met a stranger and always had a huge smile on his face,” Sheriff T.J. Joye said. “He told me often how much he loved being a deputy. He will be greatly missed.”
