A Phoenix Police officer rescued a driver from a car submerged in a pool on Oct. 31.

Police say the man told them that he "accidentally stepped on the gas too hard."

In the video released by Phoenix PD, the officer uses a metal rod to break through the sunroof and pulls the motorist out of the car. No other individuals were inside the vehicle, USA Today reports.

"Thanks to the swift and courageous response of the officer, the man's life was saved," Phoenix Police said in a statement.
