A Lafayette, Louisiana, Police officer was killed and three others were wounded during a hostage standoff in Jeanerette Thursday.
Lafayette Police said the other three officers are currently in good condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect is in custody, KLFY reports.
The slain officer has been identified as Senior Corporal Segus R. Jolivette, 35. Jolivette served as a member of the SWAT negotiator team and as a patrol officer.
Officials say the incident began around 9 a.m. Thursday when the City Marshal’s Office learned that Nyjal Hurst, 31, was inside of a home and attempted to serve an arrest warrant for attempted murder.
After deputies arrived, two people came out of the residence and said Hurst was inside; Hurst then proceeded to barricade himself with two others, triggering a standoff.
During the standoff, the suspect fired multiple shots at officers; two officers were shot, and bullet fragments hit the other two officers, according to the Lafayette Police Department.
Multiple agencies were involved in the incident.
Jolivette previously served with the Opelousas Police Department. He is survived by his wife and five children.
