A San Jose, California, reserve police officer sustained minor injuries and his police car was severely damaged when it was attacked by masked individuals during a street sideshow Saturday evening. Part of the mob jumped on top of the patrol vehicle and smashed the window.
Video posted on social media showed the attack on the patrol vehicle.
The reserve officer had been flagged down to help an injured person, who he never reached because the masked crowd members overran his car, reported FOX2.
"To see one of our officers attacked by an out-of-control mob while in the process of trying to help a seriously injured person is truly deplorable," acting Chief of Police Paul Joseph said in a statement on the department’s Facebook page.
The crowd dispersed as other officers arrived.
“Know that we will expend every effort to identify and apprehend all involved. I will also personally work with the district attorney to ensure that, once arrested, these suspects are prosecuted to the fullest extent the law allows,” the chief added.
