Video Shows Impaired Driver Strike VA Trooper on DUI Stop

A dashcam video released by Virginia State Police shows when a trooper was struck by her patrol unit after it was hit by an impaired driver.

The Virginia State Police released dashcam video of one of its troopers being struck by her patrol vehicle after it was hit by an impaired driver one night last week.

Trooper C. Aziz was injured and has a long road to recovery, state police said, but sustained no broken bones.

She was out with one impaired driver who chose to park blocking two lanes of a four-lane highway around 3 a.m. While beside the vehicle talking with the driver, as shown on video, another vehicle struck the rear of her patrol unit.

As the patrol vehicle continued to record dashcam video, it was knocked forward hitting the stopped car and the trooper in her right side. She was knocked down, but quickly returned to her feet and radioed for backup.

Both the driver Aziz was talking to and the driver who struck the patrol vehicle were arrested.
