Deputy Jacob Eric Salrin was turning at an intersection when his patrol vehicle was hit by the truck. He died at the scene, WSPA reports.
Salrin was hired by the Richland County Sheriff’s Office in 2022 and graduated from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy in January, RCSO said in a Facebook statement.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
