Maryland State Trooper Wesley Brown was shot and killed, while he talked on his cell phone in an Applebee's restaurant parking lot that may have involved a customer who had refused to pay a bill, the Washington Post reports.
Restaurant patrons called 911, after 24-year-old Brown, a three-year trooper, stumbled through the front doors with multiple gunshot wounds. He had been talking on the phone near a marked law enforcement vehicle while wearing a jacket with "police" on the back.
Earlier in the shift, Brown had escorted a "disorderly" patron out of the restaurant who had refused to pay the check. Police are now searching for that man as a person of interest.
