About a day after he left prison, 69-year-old John Stolarz attempted to hold up one of the busiest banks in Manhattan, before feeling from officers who eventually shot and killed him near a transit station, reports the New York Daily News.
Using a 10-inch steak knife, Stolarz walked into the Chase branch near Madison Square Garden shortly after noon on Thursday, and demanded "fifties and hundreds." Stolarz left, when a teller told him the bank didn't have the cash.
Police caught up with the robber at an Amtrak loading station, where they shot him after he refused to drop the knife.
