One of the first decisions made by Chris Moore, as he takes over the San Jose Police Department as acting chief has been to name the agency's first female chief.
Moore takes over the 1,260-officer department that has been "rocked by low morale, major budget cuts and allegations of racial profiling and overaggressive street policing," according to the San Jose Mercury News.
Moore announced the promotion of Diane Urban to be his assistant chief, the first female in that position.
