The man accused of fatally shooting a Georgia police officer surrendered late Friday, but not before telling authorities he wouldn't give up himself and his hostages unless the event was broadcast on live television.

Jamie Hood, 33, emerged from a residence four days after allegedly shooting Senior Patrol Officer Elmer "Buddy" Christian of the Athens-Clarke County (Ga.) Police Department. Hood also apparently shot Officer Tony Howard twice, including once in the face. Officer Howard is recovering from his injuries.

Following the shooting, authorities searched for Hood, eventually locating him at an apartment complex, where he had taken eight hostages that he apparently knew. A $50,000 reward was offered for his capture.

Hood wanted the TV cameras because he was "convinced that he was going to be killed by law enforcement if he attempted to surrender," Vernon Keenan, Georgia Bureau of Investigation director, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Hood reportedly told investigators Friday night while in handcuffs, "I regret killing that officer. That innocent officer didn't deserve that. I regret that," reports 11Alive.com.
