Newborn Left at Indiana Officer's Home

Investigators are attempting to locate a mother who left her newborn infant in a cardboard box on the front doorstep of a northwest Indiana officer, reports the Chicago Tribune.

Merrilliville (Ind.) Police Officer Gerald Croarkin's wife Angie discovered the infant when she stepped outside to smoke a cigarette on Friday evening.

The baby, a 5-pound 15-ounce girl local nurses have named Olivia, was swaddled in a blanket and fleece sweatshirt. The child's umbilical cord was still attached and unclamped.
