A former NYPD cop who joined a crew that ropbbed drug dealers was sentenced to 20 years by a Brooklyn federal judge, who didn't appreciate the stated motivation for the crime.
Ex-cop Jorge Arbaje-Diaz said he robbed the drug dealers so he could pay his variable-rate mortgage, an excuse Judge Nicholas Garaufus called absurd.
The officer, who joined the NYPD in 2005 after gaining a college degree, was fired from the force in May 2010 after pleading guilty.
