Two Men Charged in Officer's Assault at Ohio State Block Party

A Franklin County, Ohio, grand jury has charged two of the three men believed to have assaulted a police officer during the Ohio State University Woodfest block party.

Matthew J. Coleman, 19, is charged with two counts of assaulting an officer and one count of obstructing official business. Michael E. Shivak, 21, is charged with one count of assaulting an officer and one count of obstructing official business.

Officers were driving a van down Woodruff Avenue shortly after midnight on May 15 to clear the street when Shivak threw a bottle at the open passenger-side window of a cruiser, nearly striking Lt. Luellen Kuykendoll.

Coleman threw a bottle at Officer Wesley Hurley, who was trying to arrest Shivak, then elbowed Officer Harold Waltermyer in the face as officers tried to arrest Coleman.
