The man believed to have killed eight at a southern California beauty salon on Wednesday is an ex-marine with a history of mental illness and domestic violence.
Former tugboat crewman Scott Dekraai, 42, began suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after a 2007 tugboat accident that crippled his leg.
Dekraai has a history of mental illness, including bipolar disorder and mood swings, according to court records. He allegedly physically abused his ex-wife Michelle, who died in the shooting, during their relationship.
Also, Dekraai's stepfather filed a temporary restraining order against his stepson in 2007 after Scott attacked him, causing cuts and bruises on his face and right arm. Scott's son witnessed the assault.
