The Phoenix Police Department is setting up an assembly line process using tents in a parking lot to clear as many as 2,000 outstanding misdemeanor-arrest warrants.

The Phoenix Police Department is setting up an assembly line process using tents in a parking lot to clear as many as 2,000 outstanding misdemeanor-arrest warrants.

So far, results of the department's experiment have been described as "very promising."

The city has a backlog of 110,000 warrants outstanding for misdemeanor crimes such as traffic violations, domestic violence, and shoplifting. The warrants won't be written off, but court workers will work with suspects to collect a fine or get a payment plan going, reports the Arizona Republic.
