Detroit Police Sgt. Almondo Greer-Travis loved protecting the city's residents as well as treating them with the civility he felt his badge required, reports the Detroit News.

"He was so proud to be able to call citizens 'Sir' and 'Ma'am' while serving them in his uniform," said his brother, City Council President Charles Pugh. "He wanted to be a pleasant surprise on the streets of Detroit, with extreme courtesy."
