Police and fire units responding to Sandy Hook Elementary School on Friday detained what they said was a juvenile suspect, located the shooter's weapons, and began setting up an incident command center, according to dispatch audio.
A brief audio clip of this communication between local police and fire first responders was posted at RadioReference.com. The clip is listed at 18 minutes, 34 seconds, but cuts out at six minutes, 10 seconds. Officers with the Newtown (Conn.) Police Department can be heard communicating with each other and fire personnel.
In the clip, one officer reports a broken window at the front of the school. Another officer says a weapon has been recovered. An officer also reports that a juvenile has been taken into custody.
Adam Lanza, 20, reportedly opened fire at the school at about 9:30 a.m., killing 26 people, including 20 children. Lanza committed suicide after the shooting. Earlier in the morning, he killed his mother, Nancy Lanza.
