The San Bernardino County (Calif.) Sheriff's detective killed by a fugitive ex-cop in Big Bear was remembered as a devoted deputy, family man, and lover of life during a memorial service that nearly filled a 11,000-seat amphitheater.

Detective Jeremiah MacKay was killed Feb. 12 by Chris Dorner, a fired LAPD officer who also killed three other people during a six-day manhunt.

During a memorial service Thursday at the San Manuel Amphitheater in Devore, Detective MacKay was remembered by a colleague "as a cop's cop and I believe that is one of the highest honors we can bestow one of our peers," Capt. Lee Hamblin told the San Bernardino Sun.
