Dep. Robert Jackson, 48, of the Butte County (Calif.) Sheriff's Office was killed when he pulled his cruiser onto Highway 99 in Biggs and a big-rig truck traveling down the road could not stop in time, reports ABC affiliate KRCR .
The corrections deputy was a six-year veteran of the agency. He had served 20 years in the military.
