When a Warren, Mich., officer made a traffic stop Tuesday for a stop sign violation, he was attacked, pulled into the car, and dragged down the road.
"The officer was going to place [the driver] under arrest," Warren Police Commissioner Jere Green told WXYZ TV . "He actually doubled his cuffs up because the guy was so big and he attempted to put cuffs on and the guy started to fight him."
The officer managed to get out of the car after a few feet and the driver accelerated away, triggering a police pursuit that ended with an officer-involved shooting.
"The officer gets out, the bad guy puts the car in reverse, accelerates, and goes toward the officer and the scout car," said Commissioner Green. "The officer fires three shots at that point from his duty weapon."
The suspect was shot twice but managed to take off in his car again. He eventually came to a stop a short time later and was taken into custody and rushed to the hospital.
The dragged officer suffered a back injury and was hospitalized. The suspect was hospitalized with gunshot wounds and faces numerous charges from the assault on the officer and from drugs found inside his car.
