The situation felt tense at times at the California state Capitol on Sunday as anti-police protesters tried entering a rally supporting law enforcement.

It was a clash of cultures -- and when protesters tried crashing the rally, things got very heated.

The boisterous crowd of roughly two dozen protesters found themselves shut out of the Capitol event because they had failed to secure a permit, something required for Capitol rallies.

Inside the rally support for officers was strong.

"I heard about this today and I just came out to support our police officers who work for us every day and keep us safe," Keith Sharward, a supporter of law enforcement at the rally, told KCRA TV.

For many Capitol visitors, the dueling rallies created feelings of ambivalence.

"I support the police but I also support (the protesters)," Christian Gonzalez said. "And I think that's the only stance I can take as my right being an American."
