D.C. Police say they are looking for a man who attacked a police officer with an ax early Friday.
The incident happened around 3 a.m. near 13th and Perry streets NE when the D.C. police officer was approached by a man who had an ax, authorities said.
“Unprovoked, the man armed with an ax did swing at the officer,” Araz Alali, a spokesman for the D.C. Police department told the Washington Post. “He ambushed a police officer. This was not direct enforcement. This was completely unprovoked.”
The man fled on foot westbound in an alley towards the 1200 block of Quincy Street NE, police said. The ax was recovered and was “being processed,” Alali said.
Full details of the injuries were not immediately given, but police described them as not life-threatening.
